Practice with a purpose

The tasks develop reading, vocabulary, sentence control and writing. Worked examples make useful thinking visible before independent practice.

Feedback they can use

I identify what is working, choose a clear next step and set a short task so your child can act on the feedback.

Progress you can see

A passport records specific skills as Introduced, Practising, Independent and Sustained. Independent success on different tasks, at least two weeks apart, supports Sustained. Summaries after six completed feedback cycles and fuller reports after twelve compare actual work and set priorities.

The weekly
rhythm.

You can choose when the work happens, while a regular deadline keeps it moving. I review each weekly submission and look for your child’s use of earlier feedback in later work.

Sunday: receive the next paid pack.

During the week: complete 60 minutes of learning and practice, usually two 30-minute sessions.

After receiving feedback: allow around 15–30 minutes to read the comments, complete the essential improvement task and check your changes against the model or checklist.

Thursday, 6pm UK: email clear photos or scans.

Friday, 8pm UK: receive my personal feedback.

Alex emails your free first-week materials, or confirms the right course, within one working day of your request. A paid next lesson starts only if you choose to continue after feedback. The first submission is the Thursday before that Sunday; your welcome email gives exact dates. Every purchase includes the final feedback and improvement task without requiring another purchase. This includes one-week purchases and the final paid week. Allow around 15–30 minutes for reading, improvement and checking, in addition to the learning pack.

Useful answers

How is this different from using AI?

AI can help explain an idea, but your child still needs to practise producing an answer independently. Here, I personally mark their submitted work and give them feedback, deciding what needs attention and setting a specific improvement to make. A regular submission deadline gives the practice structure, and their later work helps me see whether they can use the feedback.

How much time should we allow for feedback?

Set aside around 15–30 minutes to read the comments, revisit the model, make the essential improvement and check the result. The focused improvement task itself usually takes about 15 minutes; reading and checking need time too. These are flexible planning estimates, not timed tests.

Extra activities and wider reading are optional. Prioritise the essential improvement, then choose extra practice if your child has time. There is no need to send the rewrite back for another round of marking: keep it for reference and move on to the next pack.

How is the work tailored?

Each year has a curriculum. The starting task and subsequent work show your tutor which skills need attention. Support or stretch replaces part of the standard task. GCSE routes also use the student’s confirmed exam specification and set texts.

Do you cover my child’s exam board?

Yes. AQA is a central focus, and we also support the main Pearson Edexcel, OCR and Eduqas GCSE English Language and Literature specifications taught in England. The exact qualification matters: for example, Edexcel English Language and English Language 2.0 are different courses. Select the boards on the enrolment page; English Language and Literature can use different boards. Then confirm course codes if known, exam year and set texts, including poetry, in your reply to your tutor. For International GCSE, Welsh qualifications or another route, enquire before paying. Exam-specific tasks are supplied only after the specification is confirmed.

Can we join part-way through the year?

Yes. The starting task establishes priorities. At GCSE, your tutor selects the most useful part of the map against the actual exam date. Your child does not have to complete every preceding pack before receiving relevant support.

Does this replace school English?

No. It is focused supplementary practice. School lessons and wider reading remain important. The weekly learning pack and feedback tasks do not replace a full school timetable or teaching of every set text.

How do you help students work towards Grade 9?

We make the demands of strong GCSE answers explicit, show how they are met in worked models, and set deliberate practice matched to the exam board. Your tutor personally marks each submission, gives precise feedback and sets a focused improvement task. The challenge builds from the student’s starting point towards increasingly independent work. Grade 9 is the ambition, not a guaranteed result; progress reports show what the student can actually do.

What if my child needs more support?

Contact your tutor before paying if independent written lessons may be difficult to access. Support changes the task, not the child’s right to meaningful challenge. A short comprehension or fluency check may reveal a need to adjust the route or recommend more specialised help; it is not a diagnosis.

Can my child type?

Yes. Handwritten work is the usual route when that matches how your child will take their exams. Plain typed responses are welcome, particularly where typing is their agreed way of working. Tell me about any access arrangements so I can match the practice appropriately. Independent answers should be the pupil’s own, using only the assistance we have agreed.

For exam arrangements, your child’s school confirms what applies. JCQ guidance explains access arrangements, including word processors.

Is there a live lesson?

No scheduled live lesson is included. Your child can record questions in the pack; your tutor addresses them in the feedback.

What happens if we miss a deadline?

Email your tutor to agree a revised feedback date. Your free week has no seven-day expiry; email Alex to agree revised dates. For paid weeks, send missed work within 28 days or agree another arrangement. Ask about pauses before the next Sunday release.

How does cancellation work?

Every purchase is one-off. Cancel within 14 days for a full refund, even if the first pack was supplied. After that, unreleased weeks can be refunded proportionately. Read the purchase terms.

Who sees the student’s work?

I personally mark your child’s submitted work and give them feedback. During this launch, AI assistance is limited to generic teaching wording; identifiable student submissions are not imported into AI. See the privacy notice.

The feedback matters. Using it matters too.

A precise comment only helps if a student understands it and has a chance to act. Our routine makes space for that next attempt. Read the research-informed principles behind the approach, or explore free Year 8 practice between packs.

Your free week, explained.

What does the free first week include?

A complete guided lesson with explanation and a worked example, the student workbook, submission of the relevant completed work, Alex’s personal feedback and a specific improvement task. It is the normal learning → practice → feedback → improvement cycle.

How does my child take the lesson?

Your child works through the written guided lesson at home, at a convenient time. Alex personally marks the submitted work and gives feedback afterwards. There is no scheduled live session.

Does the offer expire after seven days?

No. “First week” means one complete weekly package and its feedback and improvement cycle, not a seven-day countdown. Your welcome email gives suitable first dates. If you need longer, email Alex to agree a revised date.

Can siblings each try it?

Yes. Each new student can have one free first week. Register each child separately. If two children use the same first name and parent email, contact Alex to arrange the second request.

When will the work be marked?

Alex confirms the first submission and feedback dates in the pack email. The usual timetable is submission by Thursday at 6pm, with personal feedback by Friday at 8pm, UK time. Late work normally moves to the following Friday; contact Alex to confirm. Your first dates allow time to complete the lesson.

Do we have to pay to receive the feedback?

No. The promised personal feedback and improvement task are included even if you decide not to continue. No card details, automatic payments or automatic enrolment are involved.

Which pathways can start?

KS3 Years 7–9 and GCSE Language Years 10–11 have a complete skills lesson. GCSE Literature is matched to the course and set text: an AQA Macbeth starter is available, and Alex confirms other texts and boards before accepting a free-week start. A-level Years 12–13 can request a free week: Alex checks the course, board, texts or topics and confirms suitable practice before the trial begins. Other qualifications remain by enquiry.

What if we would like another lesson?

For KS3 and GCSE, after the feedback choose another paid week or a longer package if you wish: £30 for one week, £120 for four weeks or £330 for twelve weeks. Each package contains its full number of paid weeks, in addition to the free introductory week. No automatic renewal. A-level continuation and its price are confirmed separately before payment.
