How this connects to the KS3 English curriculum

These pathways practise selected skills from England’s KS3 English programme. The national curriculum covers Years 7–9 together; this is our Year 8 starting route, not an official year-specific sequence or a complete curriculum.

Reading closely
Make inferences and refer to evidence in the text; check understanding and read critically.
Understanding literature
Understand how language, structure and characterisation create meaning; recognise the effects of literary choices.
Crafting stories
Write imaginatively for a clear purpose; organise ideas coherently; plan, draft and edit.
Making an argument
Write arguments for a range of purposes and audiences, with organised supporting ideas and appropriate vocabulary.
Controlling language
Consolidate grammar and vocabulary; use Standard English where appropriate; edit grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Extend activities invite deeper interpretation and more independent choices. Read the official KS3 English programme.
